The best view of the Milky Way is from the southern hemisphere. (New Zealand is in the Southern Hemisphere.) There the central parts of the Milky Way can be seen directly over-head and it can really look like a galaxy.
In the northern hemisphere you see mostly the outer parts of the Milky Way (the centre always stays very close to the horizon) you need to find a really dark site, and it also needs to be quite clear and not cloudy.

Where can the Milky Way be seen from?
It can be seen in most countries, but it is best from the Southern Hemisphere. It is easier to see away from lots of lights, so out in the country is best.
